This is a long story, so I will make it short My fiance proposed a yr ago with a family heirloom. We changed out the setting to make it more unique to me. The center stone was an oval, which we kept in the new setting. Following changing the setting, we had it appraised. The lady noticed a small chip in the diamond and sent us to a diamond cutter. Prior to taking it to the diamond cutter, the stone was graded as a VS1 and an I in color. We took it to the diamond cutter, and he basically damaged the stone. Now it is a SI1 in clarity, there is a visible inclusion which to me looks black. I was devastated, we tried fighting it but they could do nothing for us. The diamond cutter said anything can happen when you cut a stone, though we weren't warned I was so pissed I have been every since that day a year ago. Our wedding is in less than 5 months, so I have wanted to change out the stone due to the damage. I found a credible website online that carries certified stones with a 30 day money back guarentee. I chose a stone that was also graded as VS1 and I in color. It is EGL certified and it came with all the paperwork. The setting I have is from Jared, so we took it there yesterday to switch out the 2 stones. Jared looked at it to verify everything was good with it, which we asked them to do. The lady said, " it looks a little warm for an I color." So, I asked to see one of their " I" colored stones. I really could not tell a true difference, just a very slight difference but barely. I asked her if my stone was not I, what was it then? She said, " IDK maybe a K colored stone." A K colored stone is a slight yellow color. I was upset, this particular Jared store has upset me in the past with all the issues of the original ring. I don't know whether to believe this one lady or not. I do know that diamond grading is different to each individual and each diamond grading certification GIA, AGS, IGI, EGL and many more . The diamonds at Jared are IGI certified. So, I do have a 30 day money back guarentee on the diamond. Should I believe the lady and exchange it or not?
